Acting OVERVIEW
Career Outlook
Employment of actors is projected to grow 12 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. Job growth in the motion picture industry will stem from continued strong demand for new movies and television shows. The number of Internet-only platforms, such as streaming services, is likely to increase, along with the number of shows produced for these platforms. This growth may lead to more work for actors.
Actors who work in performing arts companies are expected to see slower job growth than those in film. Many small and medium-size theaters have difficulty getting funding. As a result, the number of performances is expected to decline. Large theaters, with their more stable sources of funding and more well-known plays and musicals, should provide more opportunities.
Actors face intense competition for jobs. Most roles, no matter how minor, have many actors auditioning for them. For stage roles, actors with a bachelor’s degree in theater may have a better chance of landing a part than those without one.
Education
Many actors enhance their skills through formal dramatic education. Many who specialize in theater have bachelor’s degrees, but a degree is not required.
Although some people succeed in acting without getting a formal education, most actors acquire some formal preparation through a theater company’s acting conservatory or a university drama or theater arts program. Students can take college classes in drama or film-making to prepare for a career as an actor. Classes in dance or music may help as well.
Actors who do not have a college degree may take acting or film classes to learn their craft. Community colleges, acting conservatories, and private film schools typically offer these classes. Many theater companies also have education programs.

Market research – Acting
(Our coverage of a particular niche market will provide you with a solid foundation of how large (or small) a niche idea is, who is the typical person engaged within a certain niche, how much money is spent on products related to the niche, and data on the current and future growth of that niche.)
The worldwide theatrical market had a box office of US$38.6 billion in 2016. The top three continents/regions by box office gross were: Asia-Pacific with US$14.9 billion, the U.S. and Canada with US$11.4 billion, and Europe, the Middle East and North Africa with US$9.5 billion. As of 2016, the largest markets by box office were, in decreasing order, the United States, China, Japan, India, and the United Kingdom. As of 2011, the countries with the largest number of film productions were India, Nigeria, and the United States. In Europe, significant centers of movie production are France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Acting classes can be broken into three groups: courses, which meet once or twice weekly over the course of several weeks; one-day or two-day workshops that teach specific, focused skill sets; and private one-on-one coaching.
- Courses in acting are more general, teaching the basics of acting or covering a breadth of information on a specific acting technique such as method, which focuses on realistic expression of emotion, or improvisation, which focuses on creating scenes on the spot with a group. Courses typically cost $150-$2,000, depending largely on location and the prestige of the school.
- Workshops are more specialized, teaching a specific skill. This may be an on-stage skill such as stage fighting or delivering a monologue, or it could provide practical knowledge for the profession, such as acting for commercials, finding an agent or even doing one’s taxes.
- Many acting teachers offer private coaching sessions in which actors can receive one-on-one technique and career advice. Sessions cost from $50-$250, depending largely on the coach’s popularity.
- Most colleges offer degrees in theater and related disciplines. Going to a four-year college costs $5,000-$39,000 annually.

Conclusion
The acting industry will continue to grow for the next few years, meaning the amount of people engaged in this profession-and spending money searching for training and information-will continue to grow!
As with any type of education, online training and classes will grow heavily. People will continue to search for more time and cost effective ways to learn this skill.
Top keywords
The following list is compiled by my favorite keyword tool, Jaaxy. This list is characterized by Jaaxy’s preferred measurements, which are:
-
SEO power is a metric that determines the difficulty or ease to rank for these keywords, with 90-100 being the easiest, 80-90 being moderate, and 70-80 for broader appeal-with more competition.
If you are unfamiliar with Jaaxy, I invite you to watch this training from my favorite, Jay at Wealthy Affiliates. He explains the metrics and powerful features of this simple to use tool He even shows proof how quick it can work!

Google suggestion keywords
This is a listing of the top keywords according to Google suggestion (or auto-fill) results. We use the outstanding tool Keyword.io to compile these results. These results are especially vital because they outline what Google suggests as you type. The reason they do this is to make typing a whole phrase less time-consuming. What they suggest is a “peek” into the habits of others, as it recommends the keyword phrases that are most searched for.
Keep in mind that this data is more raw than the results with Jaaxy, but it provides great insight and potential starting points for further keyword research.

YouTube keywords
This list is from YouTube, which has positioned itself as a search engine of sorts in this age of video content. It provides insight into the different-but sometimes similar- habits of users compared to a traditional Google search.
YouTube results not only uncover the content and media that your potential audience is searching for, it can give you some keyword ideas if you are planning to add a YouTube channel to your offerings. Depending on the niche idea, this can be a wonderful way to engage with your audience, and increase your marketing reach.
Remember that with a YouTube channel, you can gain subscribers and eventually monetize that traffic. It also allows you to extend the influence of your sites as a brand, and build trust.

What’s Next?
This guide is designed to give you a lot of research information on your chosen niche, so that you can take that data and start building your site! This guide will, hopefully, save you some time, as well as show you the process of niche research. I enjoy this process, but I know a lot of people don’t. A lot of people get frustrated with this critical step, and never get going as a result.
While the info in the guide is not your only options, it does give you insight and point you in the right direction. Too much information is never a bad thing!
I invite you to create your own research on top of this guide, and hopefully this content will give you ideas on where to look.
Things to consider
- Your site could offer lessons, especially if you have experience teaching, or you are learning yourself.
- You can point to courses and lessons, while offering insightful articles on the profession that tie in well with those researching the career field.
- Beginning actors are a good target for sites such as this.
- Write a quick book on acting tips, or finding great acting schools, and use this to build a subscriber list.
- An actor’s life, and things that surround the career, would make great content for a “lifestyle” portion of your site. Targeting the lifestyle of those involved in any hobby or profession creates a sense of community with your audience.
Competition/ “Stars” of the niche
Part of niche research is finding and understanding your competition. You can glean ideas from them, as well as finding potential partners. There are many places to find the key influencers in each niche, such as Google, Facebook, YouTube, and many others. While this is not intended to be a complete list, it should give you a good starting point. Take a peek at how they do things- what products they promote, what types of content do they write, how do they engage with their audience. Use these ideas as inspiration, and put your own special twist into it!
